What do you want to do outside today? Newport News, along with its moderate weather, probably have you covered. And since its located – near Williamsburg, Yorktown, Hampton, Norfolk and just a short drive from Virginia Beach – if its not available in Newport News, it’s just a down the road.
Whether your speed is a casual walk along beach or a heart-thumping bicycle ride, Newport News has you covered. Chesapeake Bay offers both salt and freshwater fishing (some of the best in Virginia). Or check out Virginia Living Museum to learn about local wildlife, get up close with a loggerhead turtle and touch live spider crabs and fossilized dinosaur tracks.
Don’t miss out on Anderson Park, home to the historic Monitor-Merrimack Overlook. History buffs will enjoy that at this site, the Battle of the Ironclads took place. Of course, the park also offers ballfields, a boat ramp, saltwater fishing and more.
Maybe a little camping is in order? Newport News boasts of 188 modern campsites at Newport News Park, one of the largest municipal parks east of the Mississippi River.
